Wool, Milk And Domesticated Camels II
Kasey Child, a US-based painter, is celebrated for his vibrant and texturally abstract style that often verges on the chaotic. His work focuses on blending new colours and creating compositions that encourage personal interpretations, always with a keen awareness of the environment.
Child's improvisational process is influenced by current events, and he draws inspiration from the world around him to refine his art until it finds focus and purpose. Working in a range of media including oils, watercolour, pen and ink, and photography, he addresses themes of uncertainty, climate change, and extreme weather, and often builds a piece around elements such as fire, polluted water, flooding, and storm clouds.
Born in 1985, Child is Irish-American and French-Canadian artist who exhibits across the US and UK. In 2023, he ventured into directing and was featured in the documentary "Rembrandt Lives in New Jersey." He travels extensively, but is based in vibrant Burlington, Vermont, where he operates from his studio and oversees an independent film company.
His artistic influences include figures like Cecily Brown, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Joan Terese Hayes, Taher Jaoui, Joan Mitchell, and he credits the public art of Montreal, Miami, and Philadelphia with shaping his unique and dynamic artistic journey
“Child’s colourful, chaotic paintings lie somewhere between Jackson Pollock's drip technique and Henri Matisse's fauvist period.” (Seven Days Magazine)
“Active abstractions with a decided street art influence…wildly energetic compositions on canvas, paper, or panel to be commentaries on the climate crisis…a compelling vision.” (Pamela Polston, Arts Editor)
