David Shrigley Biography


David Shrigley first became known for his books of quirky doodles and sketches that were published soon after his graduation from the Glasgow School of Art in 1991.

Although his practice embraces a multitude of media such as photography, sculpture, and public installation, it is his naïve style drawings and screen-prints that he is best known for.

Often including absurd statements and dry captions, Shrigley’s crude imagery is celebrated for its quick wit and playful nature.

Shrigley’s works are included in prominent collections internationally, including Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Ludwig, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Tate Britain, and National Gallery of Victoria.

Today you can also find over ninety of Shrigley’s works lining the walls in London’s Sketch restaurant.
