Jean Tinguely
Swiss born Jean Tinguely was one of the leading figures of post-war European art. Best known for his innovative kinetic sculptures, Tinguely transformed discarded materials into moving mechanical artworks that challenged conventional ideas about sculpture and artistic permanence. Studying at the Basel School of Arts and Crafts, he developed an interest in modern art, design, and mechanical construction. In the early 1950s he moved to Paris, where he became associated with the Nouveau Réalisme movement, a group of artists who sought to bridge the gap between art and everyday life by incorporating ordinary objects and industrial materials into their work.
