Magdalena Morey Biography

In 2005, Magdalena relocated to Cambridge where she began exhibiting widely. A long-term collaboration with a local gallery followed, marking an important period of development and visibility for her work. In 2009, she moved to Switzerland, settling near Zurich, where she continued to paint while raising her young family — a quieter but formative chapter that allowed her practice to evolve with greater focus and maturity.

In 2015, Magdalena and her family made a decisive move to Spain, eventually settling in Asturias, a dramatic and richly atmospheric region in the north of the country. The landscapes of this area — its changing light, lush terrain and proximity to water — have become central to her work. Rather than depicting specific locations, her paintings distil the sensation of being within a landscape, capturing mood, movement and the subtle energy of the natural world.

Working primarily with acrylic, pastels and mixed media, Magdalena builds her compositions through layers, texture and instinctive mark-making. Her background in textiles is evident in the tactile quality of her surfaces, while her painterly approach allows light and colour to shift across the canvas in a way that feels both expressive and controlled.

She has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide and her work is held in private collections across multiple continents, reflecting a growing international appreciation for landscapes that feel immersive, thoughtful and quietly powerful.
