Lee Kaplan Biography

Lee Kaplan's exhilarating abstract works juxtapose bold, vivid colours with more subtle hues to form a dynamic and engaging visual experience. With a Master's degree in Architecture and a rich background in the discipline, Kaplan eventually found her true calling in the world of fine art. This passion had been with her since childhood, as she had grown up in a household that was immersed in artistic pursuits; but her creative journey took her down a winding path and it was not until she had a family of her own that she realised that her heart lay in drawing and painting. Kaplan embraced the opportunity to focus on painting and also ventured into creating illustrations for books, magazines, and websites, as well as teaching art. As a mother of two young sons, she found inspiration in discovering a more innocent and straightforward view of the world, and this has brought an authenticity and accessibility to her oeuvre.

Kaplan's artistry is characterised by a dazzling, vivacious style, expressing a rich imagination and a hopeful world view.

The depth and dimension in her work, achieved through expert layering, texture, and brushwork, combines with her skill in utilising a wide range of techniques and mediums to bring her artistic vision to life.

Her repertoire, ranging through abstracts, landscapes, figurative compositions and mixed media collages, is influenced by the Neo-expressionism of George Baselitz and Anselm Kiefer and exudes an infectious energy and passion.
