We are delighted to present this beautiful new embellished limited edition from contemporary botanical artist Tim Fowler. This radiant sunflower scene, inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting, marks the artist’s move from painting leafy plants and foliage to exploring the intricate beauty of flowers. He says, “I used to question how I could enhance a flower's representation, but I've come to understand that it's not about improvement, but about interpreting the subject in my unique style.”
Recently, my artistic focus has evolved from painting solely leafy plants and foliage to exploring the intricate beauty of flowers. I used to question how I could enhance a flower's representation, but I've come to understand that it's not about improvement, but about interpreting the subject in my unique style. This shift posed a challenge that I embraced as a puzzle to solve. Inspired by Van Gogh, I began my journey with sunflowers in vases, which quickly captivated me with their charm in a still life setting.
My perspective expanded earlier this year when I attended the Orchid festival at Kew Gardens. The diverse array of orchid species, colours, and patterns left me in awe. Their almost otherworldly appearance, both organic and sculptural, fascinated me. This experience laid the foundation for my new Orchid series, which I am excited to debut at the upcoming exhibition with Clarendon.
In this series, I not only explore different types of orchids but also experiment with various approaches to painting them. Painting orchids allows me to explore the balance between organic forms and structured compositions, fostering creativity and experimentation.
