Artwork Description:

Size:76 x 28 in.

This original painting by Kay Davenport, titled "Honey Suckle Smile", measures 72" x 24" and captures the delicate beauty of honeysuckle blossoms against a striking crimson background. The piece features vibrant pink and magenta flowers that appear to float gracefully across the canvas, intertwined with slender branches. Bees are depicted hovering near the flowers, adding an element of life and movement to the serene composition. The deep red background contrasts with the intricate detailing of the flowers and insects, creating a captivating and harmonious visual experience.

Kay Davenport’s work is inspired by her love for nature and wildlife, which she captures with both sensitivity and precision. She often photographs flowers and bees at different stages of their life cycle, drawing inspiration from their natural beauty, whether in full bloom or partially weathered. In "Honey Suckle Smile", the blooms are rendered with a lyrical softness, embodying the charm of nature's ephemeral beauty.

Davenport combines the versatility of oil paints for the foreground with an acrylic background, using the different mediums to achieve depth, texture, and vibrancy. Occasionally, she adds embellishments such as gold or silver leaf to bring additional highlights to her work. Her dreamy, happy disposition is reflected in the joyful energy that flows through her paintings, making them uplifting and enchanting.

With over 20 years of professional experience, Davenport credits a visit to a David Shepherd wildlife exhibition as the moment she knew she wanted to become an artist. The intricate details of frost on a bramble bush in one of Shepherd’s paintings left a lasting impression on her, inspiring her to pursue a career in art. Now based in rural Cheshire after years in Cyprus, she continues to draw inspiration from the flowers and wildlife of the English countryside. "Honey Suckle Smile" is a testament to her skill in blending natural realism with artistic expression, resulting in a vibrant and emotive piece.
