Dean Kendrick Biography

From an early age Dean’s fascination with figurative drawing, painting, and sculpture, combined with an innate curiosity for how things work, set him on a path that would lead him to become an artist. He was inspired by nature, innovation and classical sculpture, in particular by artists including Edgar Degas for his “ability to capture a natural form in bronze that feels alive”, and Leonardo da Vinci for his “anatomical precision and mechanical ingenuity”.

Dean researches his subjects thoroughly before starting work on a new piece. For preparation he creates extensive mood boards, anatomical sketches, small maquettes and concept renders. To create his sculptures, he maintains traditional bronze casting techniques and works in solid foundry bronze using the ancient method of lost wax casting, before finishing the work in a deep patina and sealing it with a special wax which further enhances the colour and protects the bronze for years to come.

Describing his style as “a blend of stylised realism with a focus on detail, movement, and form, designed to engage the viewer's imagination from multiple perspectives”, Dean’s work is as dynamic and expressive as it is detailed and meticulous. Creating pieces that evoke emotion, inspire, and remain in people’s memories, as well as consistently producing the highest quality creations are of the utmost importance, proving him to be an artist with a true dedication to his craft.
