Fred Gordon

Gordon’s intention is to capture a moment, a nuance in the movement and an expressive interpretation of the creature’s character in the pose, rather than to create an exact impression. He then begins a more intricate process of work on the faces and the other details that bring the work to life. After the bronze is cast using the age-old lost wax method, he finishes the pieces with a beautiful marbled patina, using natural grey, green and brown tones to create a shifting collage of colour. With his acute observational skills, finely tuned instincts and an outstanding talent, he conveys a real sense of spirit, movement and energy in his tactile and dynamic works.

The son of a sculptor mother, Gordon trained in Art and Design at Falmouth then received a masters degree in History of Art and French from Edinburgh University. In 2017 he completed his studies and immediately embarked on a career as a professional sculptor. Since then, he has exhibited with Sculpture by the Lakes, the Animal Art Fair, Art for Youth and the Affordable Art Fair in London and has been shortlisted for David Shepherd’s Wildlife Artist of the Year.
