Adam Collier Noel is an American artist whose vibrant abstract paintings explore the expressive power of colour, texture and geometric form. Working from his studio in the mountains of Blue Ridge, Georgia, he creates bold, contemporary works that combine structured compositions with richly textured surfaces, resulting in paintings that feel both energetic and meditative.
Born in Indianapolis, Adam studied photography at Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art. His early career as a professional photographer developed his understanding of composition, light and colour, but he eventually found himself drawn towards the immediacy and tactile nature of painting. After moving to South Florida, he worked for a major art gallery, gaining valuable insight into the world of fine art and collecting while developing his own practice. It was during this period that he began developing the bold, colour-driven style that has become central to his work.
Influenced by Colour Field artists including Josef Albers and Frank Stella, Adam is fascinated by the way colours interact and how one hue can alter our perception of another. He creates his paintings using acrylics, applied in multiple layers with a palette knife. Rather than simply painting with the medium, he describes the process as sculpting the paint, creating tactile surfaces in which bold geometric structures meet areas of roughness and imperfection.
Although his compositions are carefully structured, the process itself is intuitive. Adam allows each colour to inform the next, building, obscuring and refining the surface until the painting reaches a sense of balance and harmony. The resulting works combine rhythm, depth and vibrant colour, while retaining the physical traces of their making.
His work has been exhibited across the United States, including at Miami Art Week, the Hamptons Fine Art Fair and Scottsdale Ferrari Art Fair, and is held in private collections across the US, Europe, South America and Australia.
At the heart of Adam's practice is a belief in the emotional language of colour. His paintings invite viewers to slow down and experience the interplay of hue, texture and rhythm, creating uplifting works that bring energy, optimism and a sense of possibility into the spaces they inhabit.
