Artwork Description:

Size:21 x 19 in

This original painting by Pip McGarry, titled "Just Watching", is a captivating wildlife portrait that beautifully captures the essence of a relaxed yet alert hyena, measuring 12" x 10" and presented in a black and silver wooden frame. The hyena is shown lying comfortably on the ground, its curious gaze directed forward, seemingly observing its surroundings with interest. McGarry’s mastery of detail brings the animal to life, from the intricate textures of its fur to the warmth and intelligence conveyed through its eyes. The soft tones of the background subtly blend with the natural colors of the hyena, making the subject stand out in striking realism.

Pip McGarry is renowned worldwide for his extraordinary ability to portray the majestic beauty of wildlife, particularly in African settings. His extensive travels to the plains and savannas of southern and eastern Africa have provided him with firsthand experiences of his subjects, allowing him to create authentic and compelling wildlife portraits. Over a distinguished 30-year career, McGarry has become a leading figure in wildlife art, earning international recognition for his exceptional talent.

In addition to his work as an artist, McGarry is also a prominent wildlife broadcaster, conservationist, and educator. He has judged the BBC’s *Wildlife Artist of the Year* competition four times and frequently leads wildlife safaris for artists and photographers. His TV series "A Brush with the Wild", co-hosted with Anneka Rice, helped teach celebrities to paint wildlife on location in Africa and at the Marwell Zoological Park.

McGarry’s conservation efforts are closely tied to his artistic career, and his paintings often sell for significant sums, with some fetching up to £85,000. He has also raised substantial funds for wildlife preservation through his art and his charity, "WildSave". His works, including "Just Watching", offer more than aesthetic appeal; they serve as poignant reminders of the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
