Roman Feral is a French artist, based in Miami, who is celebrated for his evocative and innovative contemporary sculpture. Taking inspiration from manmade treasures and natural beauty, and blending them in an exquisite harmonious balance, he creates works of art that are as decadent as they are delicate. His work is influenced by the exceptional artistry of the most famous French fashion houses and the delicate beauty of one of the natural world’s great wonders – the butterfly.

Born in Paris in 1990, Roman studied art at the city’s Ateliers de Sèvres, and under the tutelage of private artist mentors, as well as teaching himself a range of skills and techniques. Taking inspiration from artists including Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, César, Arman, and Manolo Valdés, his interest in statement sculpture grew. These influences, combined with his love of fashion and nature, led to the creation of his instantly recognisable and coveted works in which clouds of butterflies emerge from iconic designer bags. Initially working with real butterflies, he went on to learn new techniques at leading foundries and began creating breathtaking works in bronze and stainless steel.

Roman Feral Biography

Roman exhibited his first collection at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2018, successfully drawing international attention from collectors and professionals, which led to exhibitions in the most prominent galleries across the world. His work has also been on show at prestigious venues including Lotte New York Palace, Art Basel, and a number of luxury hotels. His collectors include the Kardashians, Leonardo DiCaprio, the Prince of Abu Dhabi, Pietro Ferrari, and Chanel, with the fashion house bestowing upon him the great honour of being the first living artist since Salvador Dalí to join their Heritage collection.

Having experienced early success followed by years in which achievements and opportunities were plentiful, his career path seems set on a stellar trajectory. With future work including a project with Netflix, as well as the creation of monumental new works to grace public spaces, and his collaboration with Clarendon Fine Art, his career continues to go from strength to strength. Driven by a desire to create art that evokes emotion and connects with people, and to leave behind a legacy, he has realised some of these ambitions early on in his career.
