Stephen Goldstein
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and now based in Fairfield, Connecticut, mixed-media street artist Stephen Goldstein creates dynamic 3D works using reclaimed materials- most notably, vintage license plates. His artwork celebrates pop culture, feminism, and contemporary social issues, blending craftsmanship with cultural commentary.
Goldstein began his practice in New York City, where he started sourcing used license plates from across the U.S. via eBay to create intricate maps of the United States. His style has since evolved into expressive sculptures and portraits—his first subjects being his own two children. Today, his upcycled works incorporate not only license plates but also guitar picks, tin roofing, car parts, bottle caps, and beer cans, all animated by bold pops of color that bring each portrait to life.
