Judith Bridgland
Born in Australia, Bridgland moved to Scotland in 1965 and is now one of the country’s most celebrated landscape artists, with an enviable international reputation. She has won a variety of awards including the MacRoberts Open Prize and has undertaken commissions for prestigious clients around the world.
Working in oil on linen, Judith uses the tactile, textural qualities of the paint to build up each image, using a wide variety of impasto mark-making to give a sense of the energy and vitality of the landscape. She captures the ever-changing light as it illuminates fields, mountains, hedgerows and the sea, with the expanse of the natural forms contrasting with complex abstraction to give a strong sense of place.
